On the occasion of International Chess Day, which is celebrated annually on July 20th, the strategic brilliance and historical significance of chess are honoured worldwide. From its origins in ancient India to its global popularity today, chess has transcended boundaries and captivated generations with its depth and intellectual challenges.
We, at Narayana Educational Institutions recently commemorated International Chess Day with great enthusiasm. Over 100 Narayana schools across India actively participated in a captivating three-day chess tournament held from July 17th to July 19th, 2023. Students from classes 4th to 9th showcased their chess skills, engaging in intense knockout matches.
Throughout the tournament, our young chess enthusiasts demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm. Eager to test their strategic thinking against opponents, they embraced the challenge with sharpened minds and racing hearts. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as each competitor brought their best moves to the chessboard, creating an exhilarating spectacle.
Striking the right balance between academics and co-curricular activities, the young chess enthusiasts ignited the tournament with an unstoppable zeal and shared their personal experiences through video testimonials, highlighting the transformative influence of chess on their lives. Sharing his personal experiences with the game of Chess, a Narayanite mentioned how his grandfather, a national-level chess player, taught him the game and emphasized the parallels between chess and life, reminding him never to underestimate their opponents.
Our director, Dr. P. Sindhura, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of co-curricular activities for overall student growth. She highlighted that the tournament not only fostered friendly rivalry but also promoted sportsmanship, resilience, and self-discipline among young minds. She also expressed the institution’s commitment to organizing such activities regularly, ensuring that students excel in both academic and co-curricular pursuits.
The tournament provided a platform for students to explore their potential, nurture their passion for chess, and develop valuable life skills.
