Since 1993, World Water Day has been commemorated annually on March 22 as a United Nations observance, emphasising the significance of water. This global event celebrates the vital role of water while shedding light on the plight of the 2.2 billion individuals deprived of safe water access. It serves as a call to action to address the escalating global water crisis.
For students of Narayana Schools, World Water Day carried particular importance as they explored the notion of a planet devoid of water. The idea, though simple, bore deep implications. We assigned students the thought-provoking task of envisioning a world stripped of its water sources, prompting them to contemplate and articulate their thoughts on the topic.
The event proved highly successful, with Narayanites passionately conveying the significance of water in various aspects of life. Teachers actively participated by imparting their insights into World Water Day, fostering an interactive and informative atmosphere. This collaborative approach not only strengthened the bond between teachers and students but also facilitated the sharing of experiences and mutual learning.
Dr. P. Sindhura, the Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, articulated her thoughts on the significance of World Water Day, affirming that “watching our young Narayanites articulate their perspectives on the importance of water is genuinely inspiring.” At Narayana, we believe in enabling learning beyond academics, especially on topics that will have an impact on our lives as well as the lives of future generations. On World Water Day, it is incumbent upon us as educators to disseminate awareness regarding the pivotal role that ‘Water’ plays in our existence. As we commemorate this pivotal day, let us pledge to nurture our lifeline for a sustainable future.”
At Narayana Schools, World Water Day 2024 provided a significant platform for educating students about the criticality of water conservation, advocating responsible water usage practices, and instilling a sense of collective responsibility. Through this event, we emphasised the importance of water and provided budding Narayanites with an opportunity to grasp the gravity of the situation and come up with executable ideas to do their bit. At Narayana, such activities are conducted frequently to ensure the dreams of children developing into responsible adults are fulfilled, as your dreams are our dreams.
